Department: Oncology Job Title: Vascular Access Registered Nurse Reports To: Director, Cardiac Services Job Summary: The Vascular Access Registered Nurse inserts PICCs, Midlines, and Ultrasound Guided IV's with difficult IV access. Provides clinical support to all providers, the clinical staff and patients at CMC. Collaborates with health team members in coordinating and implementing procedures. The Vascular Access RN participates in performance improvement activities that ensure important processes and activities are measured, assessed, and improved systematically, maintains a safe and effective patient care environment. Registered Nurse must demonstrate critical thinking skills, scientific judgment and leadership in the anticipation, planning, coordination and provision of care for the patient while performing clinical insertion of a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter, Midline, Extended Dwell catheter or IV catheter as directed by direct supervisor. Effectively provides Person Centered care and services Job Responsibilities: *Perform standard nursing assessment on all patients requiring vascular access *Consult, assessment, and insertion of vascular access devices *Collaborative team approach *Participate in training staff *Works independently *Utilizes the nursing process for the care of patients -VAT consults -Assess the need for IV assessment, products and procedures -Review of patient chart -Conduct patient interview -Explain policy and procedures to patient -Insertion of vascular access device -Documentation of procedure -Identify patient outcomes -Staff and patient education -Performs other nursing duties as assigned Requirements: Education: Associates of applied science of nursing from accredited institution. Experience: Minimum of 1-year med/surg nursing experience. Licensure: NYS registration to preform duties of a registered nurse. Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
