The ideal candidate will collaborate with colleagues and in-house counsel on IP issues, conduct freedom to operate and IP due diligence searches, prepare and prosecute patent applications, and liaise with clients and patent offices. This role offers opportunities for advancement in a collegial environment and provides training with increasing levels of responsibility.Job Duties:Provide technical expertise in life sciences patent practiceWork closely with colleagues and in-house counsel on IP-related issues throughout the product lifecycleConduct freedom to operate and/or IP due diligence search and analysis in support of licensing, acquisitions, and research and developmentPrepare and prosecute patent applications to develop strong patent portfoliosLiaise with clients, the USPTO, and foreign associates regarding patent application processes and strategiesCollaborate with talented and team-oriented colleagues across practice groups and officesReceive training opportunities with growing levels of responsibilityRequirements:Ph.D. (or master's or other advanced degree) in biological sciences (e.g., molecular or cell biology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, or biochemistry)Superior academic record with strong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesPrior law firm experience with patents in pharmaceutical and life sciences fieldsCurrent registration and good standing with the USPTO3-8 years of patent experience, including as a patent specialist, patent agent, or patent attorneyLeadership skills and ability to excel in a team environmentInterest in developing and implementing relationship-building skills internally and externallyExperience working with diverse cultures and backgroundsHighly motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environmentExcellent written and oral communication skillsExcellent law school credentials and referencesLocation: Indianapolis, INBenefits Offered:Competitive salariesQuality benefits programs, including an annual stipend for hobbies and interestsWorkplace flexibilityOne-on-One Career CoachingProfessional development opportunities and support This full-service firm is one of the largest law firms in Indianapolis with a nationally recognized reputation in many of its practice areas. With additional offices throughout the Midwest and the East Coast, the firm has over 200 lawyers ready to serve their clients. New associates are assigned to one of five sections: Bond/Municipal Finance, Business, Labor, Litigation, or Real Estate. New associates are encouraged to let the firm know what areas interest them, but all attorneys are expected to be willing to work in a wide variety of areas. New associates are also provided with early client contact. While some associates arent ecstatic with the firms bonus structure, this mid-tier firm does pay higher than many similar firms in the area.
