Addendum: Alternative Ventures is a $1.5B planning unit that proactively manages a pipeline of innovative/new joint ventures to diversify the ESS portfolio by developing insurance, reinsurance, or non-traditional risk-management solutions. This complex, profitable and growth-forward segment of the business is in the midst of standing up new technologies, processes and procedures across all of its verticals.Successful candidate will have extensive operational experience in the Alternative Risk space, including large, loss sensitive accounts, risk management, captive management, structured deals and programs. This role requires strong leadership, partnership and collaboration with underwriting, finance, technology, claims and other enablement teams to deliver results. The ability to have a "start-up" mindset to deliver new systems, processes and procedures is critical to achieve growth and profitability objectives while reducing operational risk. You will be accountable for driving day-to-day Run activity, as well as responsible for the execution of Integrated, Operational and Portfolio Planning (i.e. strategy to value), at a planning unit level, and ensuring the disciplined delivery and execution of operational projects in a specific Excess and Surplus / Specialty (E&S/S) Planning Unit (Contract Underwriting & Brokerage, MLS, Programs & Alternative Ventures, E-Risk) or Claims. Job Description Key Responsibilities: Develops and implements long and short-term strategy and direction for the operational support of a specific E&S/S Planning Unit or Claims. Directs all aspects of staff participation in major projects and task teams. Oversees the development and establishment of process improvements that enhance delivery of services to customers aligned with industry and regulatory requirements. Directs expense management and leads development of solutions to streamline process, continuously improve effectiveness, and optimize expenses. Guiding the execution of the integrated planning process through understanding the inputs from strategy (planning unit positions, statements of belief, etc.), relative operational performance, and progress against meeting base expectations with Agents, Brokers, Wholesalers and Members. Accountable for generating the planning unit perspective of internal capability maturity, business responses, operational initiatives, outcomes and metrics, arising as part of necessary changes to the business or operating model, that will enable each planning unit or claims to achieve their multi-year targets Defining and creating the integrated plan that identifies the people, process and technologies necessary to support long term and near-term planning road maps, while aligning business and IT partners on a common future state that is prioritized effectively to achieve strategic priorities Providing thought leadership relative to having a holistic understanding of the trends occurring in the specific E&S/S planning unit or claims with the intention of taking an outside-in perspective to anticipate intended & unintended consequences of planning decisions and inform tradeoff choices Partners across planning unit Operations teams and finance to develop the annual financial goals, objectives, budgets, staffing plans, etc. needed to achieve outcomes in the current year as well as identifying the initiatives that need to be executed in the current year to achieve specified outcomes Leads a team of associates who will be driving the execution of operational efforts in the pursuit of their explicit growth, expense, and loss related targets. This includes creating agile sprint plans, tactical delivery roadmaps (where needed), securing resource allocation (together with Technology teams), and providing the necessary delivery support, in partnership with Technology, to ensure delivery. Manages and provides end-to-end views, synopses, etc. of all in-flight efforts within the specific E&S/S Planning Unit or Claims to stakeholders including but not limited to Planning Unit Presidents, Finance, Technology, other corporate staff functions, etc. on a routine basis in accordance with governance expectations Establishes and maintains execution-based relationships with partner areas (Compliance, OGC, Technology, Finance, etc.) to advance E&S/S priorities and interests Engages with Experience Owners, Value Chain Leaders etc. to understand relative prioritization of agent, broker, wholesaler, and member journeys to allocate resourcing and ensure effective delivery support is provided As a thought leader this role will, together with the specific E&S/S Planning Unit or Claims leadership teams, provide insight/input relative to identifying focused expense efforts, opportunities to leverage 3rd parties, and other solutions needed to deliver outcomes. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships: Reports to SVP. Direct and indirect reports totaling 5-15. Typical Skills and Experiences: Education: Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Business or related field. Graduate studies in related areas preferred. Experience: 10 years' experience in business process design or operations preferred. Experience in leading operations and process teams. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Skilled in transformation change excelling in leading through influencing. Demonstrated expertise in multiple process disciplines such as insurance or financial business processes, IT Service Management processes, application development processes, and/or IT operations processes required. Must have strong leadership skills with the ability to work with technical and business teams including virtual teams, a future state oriented agile and digital mindset to challenge the status quo and bring new & innovative ideas / solutions throughout the planning lifecycle, proven ability to work with process and technology vendors in the delivery of solutions, breadth of knowledge of financial and technology market trends, expert knowledge of standards, best practices, methodologies, and frameworks associated with the insurance/financial services industry, business process management, and the IT discipline, expert knowledge of a wide variety of tools, concepts, and techniques of financial and operational measurement, analysis, and design, expertise and the ability to coach and mentor others in building business partnerships, influence, providing timely and relevant information for decision making, leading change, business transformation planning, and the ability to translate findings into actionable communications.
