This is a fully seasoned managerial-level position charged with responsibility for significant specialized functions within a department. Position leads a team, typically with intermediate supervisors, or a smaller group of specialized professional employees. Areas of responsibility are typically unique within the department. Supervision ReceivedDirection received is general and focuses more on long-term and short-term operating objectives, managerial effectiveness, and operating results. This level would be considered "middle" management.Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. * Provides leadership and direction to activities involved in the design, preparation, delivery, and needs assessment of safety training and development programs for assigned department(s). * Collaborates with department management to build a safety program that promotes a culture of safety and the elimination of avoidable accidents, incidents, and injuries. * Establishes and monitors key performance indicators and uses data to effectively target improvement efforts. * Ensures that corrective actions are identified and implemented to prevent recurrence. * Determines department safety training needs, and develops training curricula and evaluation methods. * Develops and/or approves training content, methods, and materials and may conduct courses. * Creates operating plans, forecasts, and reporting systems, and manages day to day operations. * Manages budget preparation, submittal, and administration. * Develops organizational structure and selects, develops, and manages team members. * Establishes internal processes, and interprets and applies organizational policies. * Collaborates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policy and strategy. * Manages purchasing, inventory, equipment maintenance, and other asset-related functions and approves purchase/supply orders, expense accounts.Decision MakingMay make purchasing or resource allocation decisions within organizational guidelines. Applies organizational policies. May interpret organizational policies and recommend exceptions.Leadership ProvidedHas formal supervisory authority over work group to include discipline, performance management, scheduling, training, etc.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list. Knowledge of safety, occupational health, and safety training methods, tools, and best practices. Knowledge of occupational health and safety and worker's compensation laws. Knowledge of department jobs, work environment, equipment, and department policies and procedures. Skill in problem-solving, strategic thinking, with excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. An understanding of emerging technologies and trends in safety and risk management is also essential. Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills. Strong planning and organizational skills. Strong Microsoft Office skills. Skill in using A/V equipment. Ability to design, develop and deliver course material in a creative and interesting manner. Ability to use interactive technology in the instructional design of training courses. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience * Bachelor's degree in business, industrial management, occupational health/safety, or related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis). * 5 years of safety, and/or occupational health experience.Preferred Education & ExperienceMust have some project management or leadership experience. Licensures and CertificationsCPR/AED/First Aid certification. OSHA 500, or other accredited safety certification a plus.Essential Capabilities and Work Environment RequiredPhysical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully.
